Today I feel like I found a rhythm, the day split well into three parts, all a little different and all enjoyable.
Part one was a 20km session - over an hour of cycling in a straight line, on a nice surface along a road between fjord and sea. It was satisfying to do but did feel somewhat like a workout.
A break for the shop and pastries then onto part 2. In part two I headed inland (sort of) in search of cycling mitts. This diversion took me about 20km out of my way but fitted nicely with the day’s plan. What I didn’t I expect was to enjoy the change of scenery, and the hills. I found my bike shop and their tiny collection of gloves, bought one of the 2 pairs in my size and headed into the town. There I wandered around a church (because if they’re open I always enjoy a look) and then decided to have some lunch. I found what looked startling like a very average pub in a very average uk town and ordered nachos - the litmus test of pub catering in my opinion. The nachos were not good but they were massive. I ate them and read my book relaxing knowing that I didn’t have too far to go.
The last part of the day was probably the most challenging. First I negotiated a great big hill. Passing a cycling (now walking) family on the way we remarked that Denmark was not meant to have such things. As I engaged the granny cog and pushed on a lady on an electric bike sailed by serenely. I suspect myself and the family had similar unkind thoughts.
All in all a satisfying day.
