Honestly...
Vienna, 30 odd degrees and sunshine all day yesterday. Today we start with heavy rain. Which continues well through the morning until the point I have left the city. Navigating (which I only really need to do in towns as the rest of the rain is well signed and usually river lead) is a pain in the neck in the rain. Once again my map is falling to bits.
Anyway. We persevered.
There was a 15km stretch of poker straight road. I amused myself by listening to Moby Dick.
The weather brightened into drizzle and shortly after even a little sunshine. I stopped in Hainburg- the last town in Austria - for a coffee and then set off to Bratislava 15km away.
By this point I was nearly dry again. I had even discarded my waterproof. Guess what? Of course. It chucked it down.
Even the sunflowers bow their heads in despair.
Here in Bratislava things have improved and it's a balmy evening. In need of food (I'm always shocked at how what I eat affects my performance the next day-although it's bloody obvious that it will) I have gone the easy way and opted for Italian. I have chosen hostel (not great but private room and central) rather than the campsite 10km out of town in the wrong direction.
Although I have no faith the weather will improve I am looking forward to the first day in Slovakia / Hungary (I'll be hopping between the two) tomorrow.
