Slow day today. I decided my legs would appreciate a break and I’d appreciate a lie in. The weather was meant to be thunderous until at least afternoon so rather than carrying on regardless I decided to have a bike free day. 

Imagine my surprise then when I woke up to birds singing and blue skies. Exactly! 

I had a lazy morning, coffee, books knitting. Then in the afternoon I went to a small museum to see life on the sands at the turn of the century. After the man kindly explained everything in German (which happens often and is entirely lost lost on me) I resolved to have a go at learning some Danish back at the tent. What I have learned so far is that there are 40 vowel sounds, optional glottals that perform some grammatical function, no translation of please and that the numbers are bewildering*. 

Then the afternoon was more of the same. I’ve availed myself of the camp kitchen to cook tea and now am having an early night ready to set off again tomorrow. 

*they are also fascinating. Something about a 20 based system with tens described as half. Then the ‘unit’ digit going first, without hyphens. Which they shorten. 

This handy explanation ‘So, 95 in English is ninety-five, and the same number in Danish would be written femoghalvfems (five and half fives – the og (and) linking the numbers together to form the final number.’ makes me think I might just stick to German.
