I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

Day four

When I woke up this morning it was cloudy. There was a chill in the air. It was altogether lovely. I didn’t rush off as the promised heat was a little less; instead I got myself nice and organised then hit the road.

Today the trail took me through meadows and woodlands. The colours were beautiful and I made good time. I’m beginning to get a sense of pace and scale but was still shocked to see the little loch where I had planned to eat lunch emerge through the trees.

After eating one of my sandwiches (organised, I told you) and some other snacks I carried on down the hill to a larger loch where I had thought about camping. I’m glad that plan didn’t come together, it was rather busy. I had a rest with my book for a bit. And a bit of a paddle. Every now and then one family or other would shout about how clear the water is and then a child would cry at the prospect of swimming in it.

After unpacking and repacking eliminating the contents of a burst coffee packet as I went I set off again. I had planned to visit a permit camp ground but as they hid it on the areas busiest - verge free - road I changed my mind. I followed a little path into the woodland to find somewhere else. My criteria being near fast flowing water, flat enough to pitch a tent.

I’ve got a lovely little spot hidden in the trees with the river bubbling along feet below. Rather delightful.
