As you may or may not remember, I only waved at Blois on my way past. It was to be Saved for Steve and that part of the holiday.
The train journey there was your usual challenge (and as I writing this after an even more challenging journey to St Malo I shall save the details for a dedicated angry post later) but we made it. The hotel was near the station and the journey had been short so we dumped our stuff and went hunting for lunch.
As we ate our omelette frites we planned what to do next. The five headed monster emerging from the windows of the house opposite tempted us in and we spent the afternoon in the magic museum. The exhibits have seen better days and many of them were broken. Doesn't bode well for a museum open less than five years. Still, an interesting pre pub diversion.
In the morning I insisted that Steve had to visit at least one 'proper' Chateaux and duely we spent a little time in the highly decorated interior of Blois. In the afternoon we scooted forward in history to visit the Foundation de Doubt. The foundation is the brainchild of Ben - as we were often reminded - and is a Fluxus museum. I love a bit of flux. For those not familiar with the genre it generally involves typed manifestos. And music made in an odd manner. And audience participation. And friends of John Cage. And politics. And humour. And Yoko Ono in the buff.
This museum didn't disapoint and despite the polished exterior, the exhibits themselves were suitably artily odd. I played a rubbish filled piano and watched people have a go at table tennis with sunflowers and colinders. It's that kind of place.
In the evening we headed out for a meal and ate (the cold tart I ordered turned out to be your basic raw courgette cream cheese sandwich but very tasty. Which was a surprise) as we listened to the town tribute band.
One stressful journey the next day and we made it to St Malo, ready for the road home.
Remember my last afternoon in Angers? I visited the natural history museum and saw some very unnatural exhibits.
This beast emerges to spooky music every half hour.
Foundation of Doubt.
A flavour of Fluxus
