I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

21st July 81km

A good day.

I set off as early as the bread van would allow (have you ever looked for food in France on a Sunday?) and just kept going after that.

I had one (felt like) major climb towards the end of the day but, apart from that (and the horrible little flies covering me) it was incident free. All I can conclude from this is that the other day was a) hotter b) hillier or c) both. I'm going for c.

I passed several beach bound traffic jams and had lots of beeps and shouts. It's really true that the French love cycling.

After I got to the site I put up my tent, ate my lunch and slept on my shady pitch.  I looked around the town in the evening and explored the royal park- the location of the site. Now I'm trying to make my gas canister last long enough to cook tea.

The final climb. They never look quite as evil in photos. This was of the kind which you keep thinking you are at the top then...
