Phewie, that was a long day. I enjoyed the first half then the second dragged just a bit.
Leaving the b&b after breakfast I climbed my way up into the woodlands behind the village. The mist was cool and the track interesting enough to keep me going. Stopping at a cafe just as Rob Roy drew to its happy conclusion (a mere 2 miles from the eponymous hero’s grave) I enjoyed a cuppa and another egg sandwich. As I sat down it was cloudy but setting off half an hour later the sky was blue and heat set in.
The route from the forest joins the bike path for a bit before meeting the disused Glenogle railway line. And that was sort of it for most of the rest of the day. The viaduct isn’t as exciting when you’re on top of it although the views down the valley and over to Loch Earn were spectacular. I plodded along, chatted to the odd cyclist, saw them all coming back the other way.
I had planned to camp around about where I am but after a little trouble finding suitable ground ended up walking an extra couple of miles. I think I can safely say I’ve found my max.
Of course that does leave a shorter day tomorrow (and possibly from now on judging by the feel of my feet). My campsite really is beautiful. Hidden amongst the trees next to a steam in which to soak my aching toes. Tea is cooking and all is right with the world.
