I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

Bresancon 382km ttt

So. It's raining.

I looked at the forecast. It will continue to rain. It's also really blinking cold. I had to buy another 'long' top at the supermarket to stop my paranoia about getting this one wet.  Cause, let's face it - it's going to happen.

I have to say though, I feel vindicated. Last year I bought a bigger (it's really big), slightly heavier (3kgs, thats ok) tent in preparation for another wet summer. I also spent quite a bit of time researching the lightest way to be warm. I wanted to be able to sit up inside on all those evenings when rain kept you there. And not freeze. But then it didn't rain. And it was really, really hot.

This year it's been great. Because it's rained a lot and I've been happy as larry in the evenings (although I haven't exactly been cock-a-hoop through the day). I cracked out the Scottish level sleeping gear last night and was snug as a bug in a rug.

To be honest, much as I am annoyed by the rain - it makes everything so much effort - I think I may prefer it to a heatwave. But that's a secret. Don't tell anyone.

Today's ride hasn't been that eventful. The Doub and I are getting along like a house on fire. There's plenty of shelter from big imposing cliffs to keep the wind at bay and the views are beautiful. There is still the odd lock to keep interest up but there are also more towns and villages along the way.

I stopped at a pizza place in Baume-les-Dames for lunch and had a bit of a wander. After that I just sort of sauntered along the river.

When I got here to the site the receptionist apologised for the weather. I booked in for two nights, she discouraged me from paying up front - in case the weather made me want to leave. I assured her that it wouldn't. She said, scandalised, that it was wetter here than in London!

I'm set up for a day of rest tomorrow. I've been to the shops, done the washing and I've got some tourist information leaflets. I've untilised my most vital piece of camping equipment - the Swiss Army knife - to open the wine and now I'm going to enjoy it - and some pasta before an early, cosy night.

Of course, last night's sight had a crazy golf course where they kept the goats.

Blue sky! I took this 10 minutes into the ride and did not see any more. All day. I took my cagoul off for a risky 20 minutes once.

Ha ha ha
