I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

16th July 15km

A lovely day in lovely Ghent.

I had breakfast in the hotel Irish bar, unlocked my bike and went on my merry way.

First stop: the bookshop. I had a look at the English section and then the stationery section. I found the cycling section and the pile of books that go with the irritating green signs (another rant for another day) which made them make some sense. This reminded me of why I was there and I found the maps for the next leg of my journey.

Next stop: St Bravo's Cathedral. Rather impressive as was The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb although the buzz of audio guides did detract somewhat.

Next a mooch round the shops for vitals such as suncream and conditioner then back on the bike to the Dr Guislain Museum.

Dr Guislain introduced me to the history of psychiatry as well as providing an exhibition about the portrayal of man in contemporary art and a collection of outsider art. It was quiet and thought provoking. Some fantastic pieces and really well put together.

I ended an enjoyable day with a quick supermarket shop ready for a night in front of the tele. I'd recommend Ghent.

Now I'm watching Tv with a glass of wine and some smarties.

Luxury indeed.
