I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

22nd July Melk to Tulln 85km

A pleasant enough day of cycling but I rather wish the weather would improve.

80 km is my perfect day I have decided and so, I enjoyed this ride. I cycled through Melk, looked up at the monastery and took a photo and then hit the open road.

I crossed the river to ride through pretty villages, orchards and vineyards. One village, Spitz, reminded me so much of Coniston in Cumbria it was disconcerting. The three way junction was filled with people and shops sold the same 'novelty' merchandise. The one distinguishing factor was those people wandering around in national costume. I suppose, comparing it to other villages there was a festival. Either that or it's a Sunday town.

I had planned to stop at Willendorf museum but it was closed. Which seems to be a bit of a theme lately.

This being the case I travelled on. There were many places to eat but I didn't plan to stop until Krems. When I got there I didn't pass a single cafe. After that it was a rather rural route so I stopped at a picnic table and ate my sandwiches.

The rest of the way seemed fairly nondescript. Well, very pretty and peaceful but similar to other days.

As I approached Tulln I was joined by another cyclist. We chatted as we went along. Apparently I was going at a suitable speed but my posture and seat height could be adjusted. The leg should be straight you know. (It is thank you).

At the site I checked in pitched up and looked for tv choices - I was hoping to catch the end of the tour. But no such luck. And wifi was €7 for 2hours. 3G were it available would have been cheaper.

Tv plans thwarted I wandered into town ate at an Italian (a nice enough restaurant but that mushroom risottos had a distinctly synthetic taste) then wandered back along the river. On a boat stage I found a concert. The sun was setting and the sun had eventually found a way through. A lovely end to the day.
