I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

17th July Regensburg

So, was my rest day restful? Why yes.

I had a long lunch whilst reading the paper. I explored the cathedral, the streets and the shops. I rode over the Danube's oldest bridge and look at the country's oldest sausage shop. I found the Scottish door at the Scottish church and I visited a gallery.

I meandered back to the site, took in the dry washing and cooked tea. Now, I have planned tomorrow, sort of packed and my final job for today is to post this.

The little man (photo below) sits at the highest point on the bridge looking worriedly at the cathedral. Legend has it that he is the builder of the bridge. He made a wager with the builder of the cathedral that his project would be completed first but day by day the cathedral grew and it seemed certain the bridge builder would loose. Desperate, the builder made a pact with the devil. He would finish the bridge first but, in return the devil would take the first three souls who crossed that way. Indeed, the bridge was finished first and the devil had to be paid. The clever builder drove a hen, a goat and a pig over the bridge thus cheating the devil.
