I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

14th July Gunzburg to Donauworth

Really think the weather is being unfair. Pack up wet tent, put waterproof on top of pack, ready for use then no rain. Just wind. Must have been gales.

I and the rest of the site's cyclist's all seemed to have the same idea. No more forest diversions, we'll take high road. For me it was a decent climb. Like a workout at the gym. Leaves you feeling healthy. I like that kind of climb. The family with the baby trailer didn't seem so enamoured.

Anyway. All was well but the wind was picking up. I stopped at a Roman Apollo temple for lunch (last night's leftovers and some quite tasty bread) Which was nice.

The wind started in earnest in the afternoon and although it was mainly I suppose in the right direction, blasts would blow me off course and the road was strewn with debris. Not to mention a snake (small, black. No idea which variety) which made me jumpy for a while. Not for being bitten, just for squashing.

It is quite hard work, to keep a safe course on an uneven surface with wind blowing you from all directions. Today my arms and wrists in particular are aching.

To Donauworth. I found the tourist information and in my burgeoning German discovered the whereabouts of the campsite and the doll museum. The latter was good, although there were some reasonably odd exhibits.

The campsite was odder. A party and some marquees and a BBQ with a field behind it. A canoeing club prize giving I gather.

So I have taken the decision to eat out. I have chosen one of many Italians and an now watching a harassed maitre de run around to the music from the last night of the proms.
