Spring is here and I have been meaning to get back into a training routine but damn Scottish weather has been rather uncooperative. It's been chucking it down on a daily basis forever. Well, for a while.
So much so that I have run out engaging ways to say 'dull, overcast and with a fair to high chance of wet playtimes' in my Morning Meeting.
But yesterday was the start of a long weekend and I was out of work by 2. Frankly, it was now or never. I set myself a modest 20 k target (hypothermia being contra indicative to cycling fitness) and headed off along national route 75. This route takes you through well-to-do security gated Crammond before reaching Queensferry and the bridge. As ever with NCN you nip in and out of building sites and rec grounds but eventually you are spat out onto the windy wet cold and steep (in said conditions) bridge.
Normally I like the bridge because the 15mph speed limit is almost impossible to keep to. Not yesterday. Cross winds and-I swear to god-sleet meant a bit of a battle. But I made it. I arrived in Fife and snuggled up in a bus shelter. I Had a little drink, little flap jack, turned around and came back again.
I arrived home, explained why I had chosen not to stop off at the shops for tea and got into the shower. Eventually feeling returned to my toes and arse and all was right with the world.
I feel this morning's post is a reward for my dogged perseverance. Not only did it bring my cycling mag, not only did that cycling mag have an ever so fetching free pair of cycling socks but also, my bike to work voucher has arrived. Whoop whoop whoop.
Now, the weather shall turn, spring shall have sprung and I shall be spinning at least 100k a day. Or 10. In the rain. Sometimes.
Beautiful bike photos to follow!
