I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

Saumur

Today's blog post will mostly feature mushrooms.

I had a pleasant ride, had some lunch (tomato salad - not exactly nutritious but it was the only veggie option), rode some more and then went to the Mushroom Museum. It was great!

It is one of Saumur's top 3 attractions don't you know. There is a collection of over 1000  mushroom related ornaments from around the world, an informative exhibition about the biology of mushrooms and then, lots of mushrooms.

I can regale you with mushroom facts.

Did you know, for example, that the spores of one giant puff ball (each only 0.006mm) if placed side by side, could encircle the earth? Or that the oldest mycelium (mushroom producing organism) covers 15 hectares and is 15 centuries only.  Naturally everyone will be aware that the Death Cap is the deadliest  mushroom in Europe. But did you know, that one mushroom can kill an entire family.

The things you learn when you travel by bike.

Photos to follow - free wifi not quite up to the challenge.
