I thought of that while riding my bicycle.

10th July 66km

A far happier cyclist today. For a start I did a bit of bike fiddling, raised the seat a mm or two, adjusted the handle bars and the pedals. That seemed to improve my mood. Plus, the clouds provided a rest from the sun.

After reception had charged my phone for me and I'd eating a pain o'chocolate themed breakfast I set off for Rotterdam. In stark contrast to yesterday, it was relentlessly industrial.  I usually like a factory landscape but not for 32km.

Rotterdam itself didn't provide much relief. There appear to be tram or train works throughout and the centre was not the canal based haven I had imagined.

Through then and onto the Kinderdyk. It was a sudden rural windmill overdose after all that factory smog.

After that respite I was back again, into samey suburbia looking for my campsite. When I got here, a pleasant surprise. The  pitches are marked with willow fences, I overlook a small waterway and a rose arch is the entrance to our 'street'.

Beautiful bike path

As I took this I overheard someone say 'I know, what were we thinking?'
