This has been a sociable tour thus far.
Before I left Paris someone stopped me to say don't stop here it's dangerous (thank you. Most helpful) there was Marseilles underwear man and kindly waitress lady.
At Le Solai (ha ha) I met an Australian family on a five week tour by bicycle and tandem. At Epernay all the world was a biker. The blokes next door kindly fed me and gave me wine on their well managed barbecue. The chocolate bananas being a healthy and nutritious end to the meal.
Walking through the streets the next day would you believe I met the touring Australians again? Rather than doing the 'epic' ride they had opted for train from Chateaux Thiery. They had hightailed it to see the tour and were on the same campsite.
The next day they leant me some sunshine to cook by (my pitch by now being rather water logged). Their neighbour provided coffee and chairs.
And here I am now in Strasbourg. Next door is Dieter from Bavaria, here to work. He is a mixture of the old and new - mega modern lightweight tent and a stove from the early eighties.
In between is bicouacking Joseph from Brooklyn. He has made it here from Amsterdam on a wing and a prayer by the sounds of things. We have swapped maps for soap and onions for seeds. He advises the 'Hot Showers' organisation - couch surfing for cyclists and has been woken up on three separate occasions by cats -male- licking his face.
