After being woken at 6 by thunder and lightening I should have had a clue how today would go.
Up, packed and off we went. Nothing much to see at Deggendorf so straight onto the Donauradweg for the last day of Germany.
As I cycled along next to Don (as I've taken to calling him - it) I eyed the skies warily. It looked like I might be lucky and just miss the ... No. Thunder. Lightening. Rain so heavy it hurt. I had to stop to drain puddles from my panniers. That was it all day. I'd just think it was safe to come out of the cagoule and there again the lightening bolts, rumbling skies and a slow drip drip drip then sudden torrential downpours. Brilliant weather to watch but not to cycle in.
Other cyclists and I gave each other wry looks as we peddled on regardless. No point in doing anything else.
I chose Netto for lunch. I stocked on bananas, bread and juice and watched the rain with a coffee. I ate a pretzel as i cycled away. I'm rather taken by pretzels and their cycle friendly shape.
I persevered through the rain and made it to the end of the Deutsch Donauradweg. Pitching up at what is in cycling circles quite a well known site I pitched and then went exploring. Of course now I was safely here, the sun came out and everything dried up. Even the heavy humid air lightened.
I explored the little cobbled streets, was overwhelmed by the cathedral and then had a coffee, this time in the sunshine. Finally I came back here to watch the cyclists arrive. All photograph the site so I have too. And the ducks.
