I went on my first new bike jaunt yesterday. For reasons unknown I took myself to Penicuik before heading back via Ikea (hamma beads and cheese twists) and Roslyn.
I am delighted to report that my new bike is a success. Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to the gears (fewer) and the weight (lighter seems a bit flighty at first) but the overall experience has been good.
50k flew by and even the everlasting hill to the bypass (A702 for those that would like to check) was a steady but not deadly climb.
The only bad thing is a distinct bone shaker quality on cobbles but cobbles are never the cyclist's friend.
The big test, or at least my best comparison will be the ride into work tomorrow. I'm hoping that the bikes magical hill negating qualities will mean I arrive there fresh as a daisy.
It seems somewhat unlikely.
