The day did indeed start well. I wandered the castle and was rowed to the cave. I had a chat with the man who rows the boat, apparently they were going to close the site until he said he would take the oarsman job.
That was probably the highlight of the day. I had a nice 15 miles to Ashington and from there on in it has been a navigation / duel carriage way nightmare. Who knew that there was a North Blythe 5 mile cul-de-sac? Not I, the fool who took it to avoid the uncycleable A189. It's a big and boring place is Blythe.
When I arrived at Seaton Sluice I sat myself down and gave myself a good talking to re: navigation. No more of this maybe this road oh damn it's no cycling now where route planning for me. It was road, marker, stop, check, next road, next marker for me from there on in. And it worked rather well.
When I reached the city itself I turned to google maps. And bloody good they are too if you have reception which I did. The youth hostel was located just where it was meant to be and I checked in.
Now I am in a good Chinese Chinese enjoying my food and my fizzy drink. I am looking forward to the dead simple navigation tomorrow (one road, stay on it, turn at haltwhistle sign) but am slightly worried about my malicious knee. It seems to be attempting to sabotage my trip. However, I have a bandage pain killer combo plan that might just work.
