I had an interesting ride yesterday. I set off in the blistering heat, I even stopped to buy sun cream and I arrived home soaking wet and freezing.
I got the train to Fife and had planned to pick up a route from there. What I hadn't noticed was that my station wasn't on the map. I couldn't find any road signs of any use so I had to double back until I eventually found myself on a road that was on the map. By that point I was loosing the will. I used my fantastic map reading skills to get me back to civilisation and, after a quick stop in Dobies to use the facilities and mooch at a road atlas they had on sale, I made my way home. In the dying miles of my ride, and whilst on an A road with no place to stop, the heaven's opened and I got soaked. I was impressed by how well my windproof kept out the water, but not that impressed. Luckily I did have a waterproof in my bag so at the station I changed into that and warmed up a bit. When I got off the train in Edinburgh the rain had well and truely set in.
Lessons learnt: carry a sensible map; carry spare clothes; never trust the weather.
